Facial Fat Transfer
Facial fat transfer offers some of the most natural-looking and long-lasting results among the spectrum of facial rejuvenation procedures.
Used alone or as a complement to facelifts and eyelid surgery, facial fat transfer can create a youthful appearance by restoring lost volume to strategic areas of the face.
The New Jersey plastic surgeons at The Glasgold Group are internationally renowned experts in facial fat transfer. Dr. Mark Glasgold and Dr. Robert Glasgold authored a medical textbook on fat transfer and often instructs peers on the procedure.
The Glasgold Group’s expertise in facial fat transfer reflects our unique approach to evaluating and correcting the signs of aging.
Natural Facial Rejuvenation
We look beyond the lines and wrinkles most people associate with aging in order to evaluate volume loss. The loss of volume in the face can produce a sunken, drawn appearance, contributing significantly to the appearance of aging. Surgical techniques like “mini-facelifts” that rely on stretching or pulling the skin do not address the underlying loss of volume.
“Volume loss in the face is an important and often underappreciated factor in assessing the aging face by both patients and surgeons,” Dr. Glasgold says.
Facial fat transfer allows us to sculpt and restore the face to its natural beauty. We are able to recreate the natural, healthy appearance of a youthful face by subtly restoring volume to hollows around the eyes, cheeks or mouth. It should be noted that fat is not effective for filling lines or wrinkles which are better treated with other types of injectable fillers.
“Facial fat grafting works best when it complements the other procedures I perform. It is the key to producing truly youthful and natural results,” says Dr. Mark Glasgold.
Facial fat transfer is a minimally invasive procedure that uses the patient’s own fat, harvested from the abdomen, hips or buttocks. Because the injected fat does not move or shift as it becomes incorporated as living tissue, it is extremely long lasting, if not permanent. This outpatient procedure usually requires only local anesthetic or IV sedation, and there are no dressings or drains.
The Glasgold Group is at the forefront of advances in fat transfer. They have done an extensive evaluation of the new Cytori’s PureGraft™ fat processing system. “We believe that the much purer fat from the PureGraft™ process dramatically reduces swelling and makes the procedure much more predictable” says Dr Robert Glasgold. The Glasgold Group is one of the few practices in the United States currently working with autologous adipose derived stem and regenerative cells (ADRC) using the Celution technology from Cytori Therapeutics which they believe is the future of regenerative aesthetics.
