New Jersey Facial Plastic Surgeon, Mark Glasgold, MD, FACS
Mark Glasgold, MD, FACS, is a board certified facial plastic surgeon in New Jersey and a principal in The Glasgold Group for Plastic Surgery. Dr. Glasgold is an internationally recognized expert in rejuvenation of the aging face and his practice is limited completely too facial cosmetic surgery. "By limiting my practice exclusively to cosmetic facial rejuvenation, I have been able to produce consistent, long lasting and natural results. Patients I have operated on have told me they look better and younger after surgery. It is not unusual for a patient to tell me that their surgery was one of the best investments they have ever made." Devoting his practice to facial rejuvenation allows Dr. Glasgold to be a constant student and teacher in his field and facelifts, facial fat transfers and natural results have been his areas of expertise. Following his fellowship in facial plastic surgery in 1995, Dr. Glasgold spent a year traveling around the country learning from the best facelift surgeons. Dr. Glasgold concluded that the modified deep plane facelift was the best operation being done and committed himself to mastering this procedure. Since then he has safely performed over 1000 deep plane facelifts and his explanation of various types of facelifts is found in our video blog Deep Plane vs. SMAS. "Patients come in confused about all the different types of facelifts but the truth is that all of these fancy names are an attempt by doctors who are doing very simple procedures to make the consumer believe they have a unique procedure. The facelift I do requires the highest level of training and technical skill and so it is not a popular procedure for doctors to learn, but when mastered it will produce the most natural and longest lasting results of any facelift procedure." Dr. Glasgold began performing facial fat transfer in 1997 and has become one of the world experts in this procedure. Dr. Glasgold organized the first Facial Fat Transfer Workshop for the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery in 2004. The growing demand to learn this procedure from doctors all over the world led Dr. Glasgold to organize his philosophy into a text book which he wrote with his student, Sam Lam, MD, and his brother Robert called Complementary Fat Grafting. "Many doctors are committed to a single procedure as always being the solution for patients either because of philosophy or limitations in their surgical ability. For me, facial fat grafting works best when it complements the other procedures I perform and is the key to producing truly youthful and natural results. You can see this in our photo gallery." Dr. Glasgold is a nationally acknowledged expert in repairing traumatic fat loss from laser and "thermage" type procedures with fat grafting. "These patients are often traumatized from their experience and are extremely grateful for any hope of improvement. The results in these patients are consistent and excellent and they are some of my most satisfied patients." A frequent author in medical journals, Dr. Glasgold’s recent articles’ have become focused on how to achieve the most natural results. He believes that volume loss is an important and often underappreciated factor in aging by both patients and surgeons. As part of the consultation he recommends examining youthful non-smiling photos of the patient to understand their aging process.
"Patients worry that they are going to look done or unnatural after cosmetic surgery and often question me why celebrities often turn out poorly. The answer is that most cosmetic surgeons do not understand facial rejuvenation and recommend operations such as browlifts which almost always produce unnatural appearances. In addition, patients often come in asking for procedures such as making the upper lip larger than the lower, which is unnatural. With appropriate analysis and treatment plans, I have never produced an unnatural or done looking result." View our video blog for patient testimonials. Most recently, Dr. Glasgold has been devoting his energy to minimizing the patient’s recovery. He is using a patented topical remedy, developed in partnership with Chicago homeopathic physician Jo Polich, intra-operatively and postoperatively to dramatically reduce bruising and swelling. "Our goal is to have patients able to return to work within one week of any surgery I do." Dr. Glasgold is an alumnus of Duke University in Durham, NC, where he received a Bachelor of Arts. Long influenced by his father Alvin’s enthusiasm for the profession of medicine, he then went on to Thomas Jefferson Medical School, in Philadelphia, PA where he received his M.D. In 1994 he received a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey, where he also did a residency in general surgery, followed by a residency in head and neck surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the New York Hospital, and Cornell University, all in Manhattan. He then did a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).
