Dr. Robert Glasgold is a double board-certified plastic surgeon. He devotes his practice to facial plastic surgery, specializing in rhinoplasty (primary and revision), facelifts, eyelid surgery, fat transfer and facial implants. He is highly experienced and skilled in the use of injectables including Botox®, Juvéderm™, Restylane®, and Sculptra®. His expertise in these areas is evident through the volume of procedures performed and his active role in education and research. His publications include multiple research papers and chapters on facial fat transfer, rhinoplasty, facial implants, and injectable fillers (see list). Dr. Glasgold, along with his brother, Dr Mark Glasgold, and Dr Samuel Lam, are the co-authors of one of the most popular resources for other surgeons on fat grafting entitled, Complementary Fat Grafting. He has also lectured and taught other physicians, at national and international meetings, on facial fat transfer, rhinoplasty, facial implants, and the use of injectable fillers.
Facial Rejuvenation: A Natural and More Youthful Appearance
During your initial consultation, Dr. Glasgold will review photographs and discuss your concerns. “In most instances, the hallmarks of aging are not found in the fine lines visible only with magnification. Big-picture changes, such the development of shadows, loss of youthful highlights and changes in facial shape, account for a more aged appearance,” he says. He encourages patients to bring pictures of their younger selves as these pictures are the ideal tools in approaching facial rejuvenation. He adds, “These photos demonstrate the youthful qualities of your face that we should be aiming to restore.”
Dr. Glasgold encourages patients to look beyond plastic surgery fads and heavily advertised procedures to consider the aesthetic result they hope to achieve. “Patients routinely stress to me that they want to look younger and natural, not as if they’ve had plastic surgery. They want to see a more youthful version of themselves in the mirror that complements the way they feel inside. Patients often bring photos of celebrities who look worse after surgery. I couldn’t agree more with the quest for natural-looking results. In general, unnatural results are due to a cookie-cutter approach to address patient concerns.”
During consultations for facial rejuvenation, both surgical and non-surgical options are discussed. Surgical options include facelifts or blepharoplasties, while non-surgical options, such as the use of synthetic fillers or autologous fat transfers, are also presented. Dr. Glasgold is an expert in the use of synthetic fillers, which he uses to contour the face, much the way autologous fat has traditionally been used.
“I want patients to understand different procedures and options so that they can feel comfortable with me and the planned procedure,” he says. “Patient satisfaction and obtaining great results are of utmost importance,” he says. “I feel very strongly about giving my patients the time and information I would want if our roles were reversed.”
Rhinoplasty: The Perfect Nose Should Look Perfectly Natural
The Glasgold Group has a distinguished reputation as the premier plastic surgery practice for rhinoplasty in New Jersey. If you are seeking rhinoplasty, New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Glasgold can help you achieve a result that will complement your features. He is also an expert in revision rhinoplasty, for patients who wish to correct poor results from previous surgery.
The hallmark of excellent rhinoplasty is a natural-looking nose that complements the face rather than dominating or overwhelming it. “Most people are coming in with a nose that is out of proportion with the rest of their facial features. Again, the patient concern that I hear most often is the fear that one’s nose will look unnatural or even “out of place” after surgery. I emphasize to patients that the nose after surgery should blend with their facial features, to allow the other aspects of their face to shine through,” says Dr. Glasgold.
During the initial consultation, Dr. Glasgold uses computer imaging to give you a realistic idea of how your nose will look after surgery. He also will show you results achieved on other patients.
In planning a rhinoplasty, Dr. Glasgold and his patients review these criteria:
- The size of the nose should be proportioned to an individual’s face
- The bridge and tip of the nose should be in proper proportion
- The tip should not be pinched or overly rounded
- The nostrils should not be overly visible
- Certain distinctive characteristics should be preserved aesthetically. “Not everyone can or should have the same nose,” he says.
New Jersey plastic surgeon Dr. Glasgold is also an expert in revision rhinoplasty, for patients who wish to correct poor results from previous surgery. Patients seeking revision rhinoplasty have usually been left with a nose that is drawing attention to itself, either from inappropriate proportions, inadequate definition of the nasal tip or too much visibility of the nostrils. Dr. Glasgold uses the latest techniques to correct these flaws and to rebuild the nose into a shape that is aesthetically pleasing. In both his primary and revision rhinoplasties, Dr. Glasgold prides himself on achieving a long-lasting result.
“Your nose should look like it always belonged on your face. No one wants to look like they had their nose done,” says Dr. Glasgold. “Most patients are focused on certain aspects that make the nose a dominant feature on their face, drawing attention away from their eyes, cheeks or other features. Reshaping the nose so that it appears natural is crucial.”
