In Highland Park, Alvin Glasgold, M.D., F.A.C.S., the founder of the Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, is performing a procedure that gives sharper definition to facelifts. The procedure, called a composite face-lift, produces better facial contouring by repositioning the deeper structure in the face.
“The procedure involves elevating the deeper layers including muscle,” says Dr. Glasgold who holds the distinction of being the only facial plastic surgeon in New Jersey to be named among the Best Doctors in America.
Dr. Glasgold practices with his son, Mark Glasgold, M.D., also a board certified facial plastic surgeon. His daughter, Ellen Lange, is a paramedical esthetician who too is associated with the center. “Normally, with a face-lift just the skin and the immediate underlying layer is touched, but with this new procedure we go into the muscle layer,” he explains.
Dr. Glasgold’s center is currently one of the few in the area to offer composite con-touring. Patients undergoing the procedure can expect better cheek contouring. “It reduces the groove between the cheek and the lip and we feel this technique will replace other face-lift procedures for the most part,” he says. Dr. Glasgold adds that the results produce a more natural, longer lasting youthful look.
Post-operative recovery time is also improved, since swelling is at a deeper level and surfeca bruising is therefore less. This procedure is just one more option for people who want to improve the jowls of aging and tell-tale neck lines.
“We perform the surgery both in our office surgical suite as well as in hospital ambulatory units,” he says. Patients are most often given local anesthesia plus sedation. For most candidates complete healing is accomplished in about two weeks.
