Facials are popular spa treatments that are given to help maintain skin health and treat certain skin issues. Standard facials use steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, masks, peels, and massage to rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. A HydraFacial is an innovative approach to facials using state-of-the-art technology to purify and rejuvenate the skin.
At Glasgold Group Plastic Surgery in Princeton, NJ, the HydraFacial is a unique hydra-dermabrasion procedure that cleanses, extracts, and hydrates skin for immediate and long-lasting results.
What is a HydraFacial?
HydraFacial uses a unique, patented Vortex-Fusion delivery system to exfoliate, extract and hydrate skin. The spiral design delivers painless extractions. HydraFacial super serums are made with nourishing ingredients that create an instantly gratifying glow in just 3 steps:
CLEANSE + PEEL
Uncover a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing.
EXTRACT + HYDRATE
Remove debris from pores with painless suction. Nourish with intense moisturizers that quench skin.
FUSE + PROTECT
Saturate the skin’s surface with antioxidants and peptides to maximize your glow.
What is Vortex-Fusion Technology?
The spiral design of HydroPeel® Tips, used in conjunction with the HydraFacial proprietary vacuum technology and serums, creates a vortex effect to easily dislodge and remove impurities while simultaneously delivering hydrating skin solutions.
Benefits of HydraFacials
HydraFacials are beneficial for any skin type, whether your skin is dry and flaky or oily and acne-prone. This treatment subtly improves the appearance of wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, blackheads, age spots, and uneven skin tone.
During the hydration step of the HydraFacial, the unique Vortex-Fusion technology penetrates more deeply than the manual application performed during microdermabrasion. The serums used to rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin contain hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and peptides. These serums brighten and nourish skin for results that last for weeks.
The combination of exfoliation and serums improves the appearance of lines, pores, and uneven skin tone. These treatments work more effectively together than separately to prevent signs of skin aging.
HydraFacial Consultation
During your HydraFacial consultation, your provider will perform a thorough skin exam and ask about your objectives and goals for the treatment. Let your provider know if you have any skin sensitivities or known allergies. Your consultation is also the perfect time to ask any questions you may have about the treatment.
Preparing for a HydraFacial
Preparation for a HydraFacial is pretty straightforward. First, be sure to protect your skin from the sun by wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen and avoiding tanning beds.
Stop using any over-the-counter acne medications that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide and refrain from waxing or shaving. Do not use any exfoliating treatments containing enzymes or glycolic acids.
Let your provider know if you take any daily medications as they could interfere with the treatment. Call your provider to reschedule if you have a sunburn or moderate to severe acne in the days leading up to your treatment.
How HydraFacial Treatment Works
HydraFacials are similar to hydradermabrasion treatments that smooth away the top layer of dead skin cells on the face to make room for new skin growth. Over time, exfoliation from the procedure increases collagen production, leading to healthier, younger-looking skin. The exfoliating tip also contains a painless suction device to remove debris from the pores, cleaning and hydrating simultaneously.
Finally, the revitalizing serums or boosters saturate the newly cleansed skin. These serums can be modified based on your specific skin care needs. Ask your provider which serums they recommend for you!
HydraFacials are performed at the office in our skincare treatment room. It only takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete, and you can go home directly after the procedure.
Recovery from HydraFacial
The only known side effect of HydraFacials is some mild redness directly following the procedure, which should fade within a couple of hours. Apply sunscreen when outside to protect your skin.
Try not to shower or exercise in the first six hours following treatment to prevent sweating. Do not exfoliate your skin for two days and avoid dermaplaning, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion treatments for at least two weeks.

HydraFacial FAQs
HydraFacial costs vary according to the individual’s needs and location.
HydraFacial uses a unique, patented Vortex-Fusion delivery system to exfoliate and hydrate the skin, while the spiral design executes painless extractions.
HydraFacials are designed to work for any skin tone and skin type. However, some of the ingredients, like salicylic acid, might not be appropriate for pregnant women. If you use prescription skin care products, check with your provider to see if you need to discontinue them for a few days before your procedure.
The results of HydraFacial treatments are immediate. Most people see results on their way out the door. Providers usually recommend getting hydrafacials monthly to help your skin through the seasonal transitions.
Regular spa treatment facials involve manual extraction, an uncomfortable and sometimes painful experience. The Vortex-Fusion technology exfoliates and cleanses gently and with minimal pain. After the exfoliation, the customized serums will target your wrinkles, blemishes, and discoloration to address your unique skin care needs.
