Dermapen® Microneedling is a revolutionary tool that uses tiny needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. When these channels are created, it allows for greater absorption of active ingredients and also increases the rate with which healthy cells grow. At the Glasgold Group, our specialists offer Dermapen Microneedling in Princeton, NJ, for patients looking for a solution to rebuild collagen.

What is Microneedling?
Microneedling procedures are completed using a dermapen, which is a set of ten micro-needles in a handheld device. The needles may be adjusted to help the aesthetic nurse specialist receive the desired result. Each needle is a single-use product that is changed after each patient.
The procedure involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles which create tiny micro-wounds in the face.. These small wounds cause your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heal your skin and help you look younger and are also helpful in eliminating acne scarring.
Acne scars are particularly troublesome for patients who have struggled with deep scarring in the past. A quality procedure will help the patient eliminate acne scarring and other scar tissue. The scar will be smoothed over using a Dermapen. The speed the Dermapen uses to create smooth skin helps to cover even the worst acne scarring, and each needle barely touches the skin during the procedure.
Benefits of Dermapen® Microneedling
The Dermapen system helps you make a difference in the complexion of any patient using a microneedling process. There are several small needles in the unit, but the needles may be changed to reach different thicknesses in the skin. The small handle on the device is easy to hold, and the unit itself is practically weightless.

What is Dermapen Microneedling Used For?
Acne Scars
Dermapen Microneedling can be used in the treatment of acne scarring. Many patients will turn to this non-invasive procedure because it requires little downtime and is very effective at improving skin tone.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Wrinkles are natural, but they don’t necessarily have to be permanent. With the Dermapen, you can help patients fill deep wrinkles and creases without using invasive treatments like plastic surgery.
Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are often caused by pregnancy and weight fluctuations. Many of these wounds can leave skin discolored, and stretch marks may not disappear with time. Stretch marks that result in red and puckered scarring will be treated successfully using the Dermapen tip on your machine.
Hair Loss
Hair loss can be triggered by any number of factors, and the Dermapen treatment will help patients to retain their natural hair color without damaging their hair follicles. The Dermapen is also useful in helping to stimulate new thick hair growth on thinning spots.
Fuller Lips
Many women who have lost volume from the lips will use a Dermapen Microneedling treatment to increase fullness and smooth out excess skin on the mouth. This is also an excellent way for patients who are interested in lip augmentation but do not want invasive or risky procedures like injections.
Who are Ideal Candidates for Microneedling with Dermapen?
Candidates must be cleared by a doctor before the procedure begins. Women tend to have more trouble with acne scarring, and a woman of middle age may have her scarring corrected after her children are born.
Candidates who are cleared for the procedure have no serious medical conditions, and patients must be prepared to go under twilight anesthesia. Any patient who is not medically fit to go under anesthesia cannot have a Dermapen procedure completed, but patients may make changes to their lifestyle that will make them eligible for it in the future.
How Dermapen Works
Dermapen sessions are completed using a set of ten micro-needles in the device. The needles may be adjusted to help the surgeon receive the desired result, and each needle is a single-use product that is changed before the next procedure. A quality procedure will help the patient eliminate acne scarring and other scar tissue.
The surgeon has room to maneuver carefully during each procedure, and the Dermapen will change speeds as the surgeon works. Changing speeds will help make each procedure faster, and patients will be left with far less discomfort after the procedure. Surgeons who commonly perform these procedures can complete work with their patients in fewer appointments, and each appointment will take less time.
What to Except of Dermapen® Microneedling
During your consultation, we will explain how the Dermapen works. The aesthetic nurse specialist will examine your skin and go over any risks and side effects. You will sign a consent form prior to the procedure. The aesthetic nurse specialist will apply a topical numbing cream to your face before the treatment begins to improve your comfort level. During the microneedling process some patients say it feels like having sandpaper rubbed across the face. Your skin may become red and tight, creating a sunburned sensation.
Recovery Process from Dermapen® Microneedling
The best news about microneedling recovery is that there is very little downtime required. The skin may feel warm and tight and look red for one to three days. Wait at least four hours to wash your face. During this period, use a delicate cleanser and moisturizer. Avoid swimming, strenuous exercise and excessive sun exposure.
Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications for several days, which could interfere with your body’s healing process. Pain medications that aren’t anti-inflammatory, including Tylenol (acetaminophen), are acceptable.
Peeling and flaking of the treatment area may occur three to five days after microneedling as a result of increased skin cell turnover. Avoid picking and scratching at your skin. Instead, use a gentle moisturizer to help combat dry skin.
The positive results of microneedling will become visible within two to four weeks. In the meantime, you can wear cosmetics to lessen the appearance of skin redness and peeling.
You should repeat the procedure as often as every four to five months. You may need three to six treatments to maximize your results. Six to eight sessions may be necessary when treating scar tissue.
How Much Does Dermapen Cost?

Dermapen® Microneedling FAQs
Yes, Dermapen is the most effective treatment for acne scarring.
Things to avoid include greasy, spicy foods and alcohol (if advised by your doctor). Avoid very hot or very cold foods/drinks. Don’t take a shower for 10 hours after the procedure. Exfoliation is not necessary but it is recommended. Don’t use any products in this area during the first 72 hours after.
It may take weeks or even months for you to see the full results after your procedure. Your scars and wrinkles will be less noticeable as time passes, but early skin tightening makes it difficult for others to tell that you’ve had a treatment done. You should expect to notice a difference after about 6-8 weeks following your procedure.
Dermaplaning is a skin resurfacing procedure that uses a mechanical exfoliation method and does not require chemicals or lasers. The Dermapen microneedling is done using a Dermapen with larger needles, which penetrates the top layer of the skin to produce collagen for tightening.
